Climber ID

1634 Racine

Can anyone offer a positive ID on this climber?  Was really overgrown when I first moved in 7 years ago.  Cut it back hard and this is the first year since that I have had some flowers.  I thought it was going to be a clematis such as freckles but obviously not!

They look a bit like Clematis Vitalba. Any scent? Maybe Clematis Terniflora.

I don't think the leaves are right for vitalba or armandii. There are so many to choose from

Might help to narrow it down if you can tell us whether it's evergreen or deciduous. How big it grows and when it flowers, which I assume is now?

It looks a lot like vitalba to me - http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=558 UK native, no scent.

I think you are probably right with vitalba. The images online are a very good match
