It's Gladiolus murielae (Also known as Acidanthera). Lovely thing. Mine aren't in flower yet!

They're little bulbs, so it's possible that a squirrel could have buried them there. :) They're not totally hardy, but they could have been in the garden already and just been hidden by other planting, blocking light/sun. You may have had just foliage before, and not seen flowers because of weather/climate conditions.
Enjoy them - lovely little plant when in flower  :)

I'm envious - I grew them years ago and loved the scent. Bought some bulbs a couple of years ago, bought others as gifts and gave them saying "Just wait for the scent, it's marvellous". Guess what - no scent whatsoever, from any of them! Luckily they look good anyway.

I've just noticed on @pauline parker-sleet 's photo, that it seems to be in amongst a Canna. That could explain it. If it's been a newly bought one the bulb[s] could have been in there  :)

I've never detected a scent either @LG_ , but I often can't detect scent in plants, and many of them need more heat for the scent to develop well too. When they flower, we don't tend to have that much heat here anyway.
