Hedge Identification and pruning
Hi, I'm after some help. Can someone identify what this hedge is and also advise on pruning. Its about 5ft high and about 6ft deep I would like to reduce the height by about 2ft and reduce the depth by as much as is practical, obviously the original planting is somewhere near the center so I can only reduce the width by cutting from each side. If I cut it back hard when is the best time of year and also how well will it recover? Will it get new growth from any point it is cut, not too worried if it takes a couple of seasons to fully recover.

We will need a closer photo please, so that we can see the leaves properly in order to make an identification.

Renovation pruning to reduce size needs to be done in winter when you can cut it quite hard but I would advise doing the top and just one side this time and then the other side the following year so the plant isn't too stressed all at once. This will also help if you get a severe winter or a late heavy frost after pruning.
