Any idea what this is?

Hi! we moved in a new house a few years ago and it seems we have a tree giving these pods....One of my friends think it's a pea tree, but we were wondering if anyone would know what this exactly is, and if these are edible.... ?

    tree peony seed pods methinks
    Leave them on the plant until the pods split open and the seeds are black then you can sow them.

    Ornamental and not edible.   Tree peonies have big, blousy flowers in a range of colours.  Mine are pink and perfumed.  Others can be yello, white with deep red central markings and so on.
