    This site

    https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/sambucus/black-beauty-elderberry-sambucus-nigra  (scroll down)

says that in hot weather it produces greener leaves, so that may be the reason for  the colouring.

I would register your concern with the supplier but state that you will wait until next spring and if the new leaves then
are green rather than black you will require them to provide a suitable replacement.

To me it looks wrong. I have sambucus nigra and have two cuttings. Even from early on the cuttings have a distinctive finely cut leaves. None of mine look like that with regard to leaf shape and the branching. Yours has a bit of a look like one of my purple stemmed viburnum.  :/. I would take it back and ask them to check it.

Although the stems have the right look, the rest doesn't. Could it be the wrong variety?

Sambucus nigra ‘Black Lace’  has much more finely divided leaves ... could that be what your friend has?

Black Beauty, the one the label says you have, does not have the ‘Japenese Acer’ type finely toothed leaves that ‘ Black Lace’ has, so apart from the colour, the leaves look right. Young plants start off green and if grown in the shade, will also be green. If it is the right plant it should turn purple with exposure to sun.

However, if it was the Black Lace one you wanted, I am sure the nursery will swap it for you.
