Pruning a Jasminum Beesianum

I need to prune/trim a jasminum Beesianum. It has reached its full height but i need to reduce it in size. It has been left for years so i cannot just prune a bit here or there to thin it out. It is obviously a few years old as the stems are thick and solid and the new growth is getting out of hand. Any ideas how hard i can trim it as i'm worried about cutting it back too far? It has just finished flowering. Thanks in advance.

I've cut one to ground and it still grew back.  I normally get the shears on it and just give it a good haircut.  They are really tough cookies so you shouldn't have a problem.
