Passion Flower isn't flowering properly

Hi everyone,

The Passion Flower in our garden seems to be having some problems flowering this year. I'm not sure when it was planted as we bought the house about three years ago. The first two years we had beautiful flowers and then fruit but now we have a lot of green and buds. We had a couple of flowers but now they just seem to fall off the vine before opening.

I have attached two photos.

It is going across a fence in the back garden and I have cut it back every year to stop it getting out of control.

This May we did have a new lawn put in and some of the older shrubs close to the Passion Flower were removed so perhaps that's something to do with it.

Is it sick and can we save it for next year?

Often bud drop happens if the plant gets insufficient water. Some of the yellow leaves might indicate that it needs feeding. However, you shouldn't feed it until you have made sure that it's thoroughly hydrated. Hope this helps.

I agree ... I think that indicates drought. The cumulative effects of last summer’s heatwave and a dry winter and spring are affecting a lot of trees, shrubs and climbers. I would give it two buckets of water twice a week until autumn leaf fall begins.

  • Thank you both for your advice :) I'll try that. Fingers crossed we will have beautiful flowers soon.
