Worried about tree

HiWe have two apple trees in our garden, I’m worried about this one. Hopefully you can see the base of it where there seems to be a bit of a hole and the rotten looking line going up the tree and the dead branch. As well as this almost all the fruit this year has gone brown and rotten.
We really want to keep the tree. Does anyone know if we have a serious problem / what we can do to save it?
