Identifying lawn weed

Hi all, Please could anyone help identify this weed which has taken over large areas of my lawned areas. Someone said it's moss which it certainly isn't. It looks a bit like small clover but I don't think it is as I've never seen that cover so much area taking over grass completely. And what would be the best method of removing it?

Many thanks,
Simon

It looks like mind your own business. It's sometimes grown as an alternative to grass and it is very difficult to get rid of
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Simon, B3 isn't being rude telling you to "mind your own business".  That is the common name of your weed, whose scientific name is the rather musical Soleirolio soleirolii.  I suppose in a lawn you could treat it with a selective weedkiller which kills everything but the grass.  I have lots of it my garden, mostly in my fruit and herb borders.  Every now and then I scrape it up and leave it on the surface to dry out and/or rot back in.  But mostly I just tolerate it.  I think it looks better than bare soil.
