Plant ID...

Hello :)

Can anybody shed any light on what this mystery arrival to our front garden might be? The question has been driving my wife mad for a few weeks. It's now about 3ft tall, has very sticky white sap, and neither of us can remember seeing any flowers (though we were away earlier this month, so maybe we just missed them...)

Thanks,

John S.

    Welcome to the Forum.
    It's caper spurge: Euphoribia Lathyrus.
The sap can cause skin irritation to some , BUT NOT EVERYONE. But maybe best to wear gloved when handling it.

  • Thanks for that; having read up about how invasive it is, it looks like it might be worth getting it out before it seeds  :#

I'd agree. Just be careful with the sap. Not everyone reacts to it, but best not to take chances.

I quite like this plant. It is certainly a bit of an oddity with its peculiar shape and colour. I have also noticed that the flowers of the caper spurge or mole plant as it is also sometimes known are appealing to honeybees.

It's not really invasive as seedlings can easily be removed if in the wrong place.
