Aloe mites and how to clear them

I have a large aloe plant, which I've noticed has developed an orange crystalline growth over several of the leaves.

Dr google suggests that this is aloe mites, so I'm looking for confirmation and any guidance as to how to deal with it. 

The plant itself is looking pretty healthy, but I understand that this problem will continue to get worse and potentially kill the whole thing.

Thanks both, I've performed some surgery on the plant and I'll see how it comes along over the next few days.
