Is it too late to trim back a Laurel, its grown a lot this year and I can't reach the end bit of my hawthorne hedge to trim it. And what about an overgrown Sambucus Nigra can I cut it back by about half before winter. Thankyou...

Laurels can be hard pruned up to late August. They are pretty tough. They can also be pruned in late winter.

Sambucus Nigra is pruned late winter to spring. I wouldn't prune it now.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
