Seeds from nicotiana

ki_buxtki_buxt Posts: 61
We have several different types of nicotiana this year and I am looking for advice about seeds. I regularly deadhead and see that some of the seed pods have now dried and appear to be full of seeds. Should I cut these off and store in packets? I don't mind if they reseed themselves in the same place, but it would be great to have them in other areas of the garden too. None have previously reseeded after winter. We are in southern Norway and winter temps can go down to minus 30, so that may be why. Grateful for any advice. Have only been gardening for about 4 years, so there is a lot of room for new knowledge!

If you can tip the seeds out into a paper envelope and store them in a cool dry place until March next year, and then sow as usual, they should be OK.  I suspect that with winters that cold , they will not survive over winter outside.

Thank you! Would carefully cutting the whole brown pod full of seeds be a wrong move?

that's OK, it's the quickest way and upside down into an envelope and they fall out into it
