Identification of tree/bush

Hi guys / girls

Can anyone tell me what this is please?

Thanks. Also if it needs any special attention. Moved in a few months ago and started hacking away at the garden/tip/meadow and I think this is stunning

Looks like one of the Japanese maples.  They tend not to like full sun or strong winds being woodland glade or woodland edge plants so make sure you keep it watered during dry spells.  They prefer neutral to acid conditions so, if you tap water is hard, add some liquid feed for ericaceous plants to the water between spring and mid July or use rainwater.

  • Thanks! After your direction, I googled a little and believe it to be either "Orange Dream" or "Sango Kaku". Either way, it's visually very appealing and will be sure to take care of it.

Thanks for your time and effort

Lovely trees.  It is best not to prune them at all, apart from the removal of any dead or diseased wood which is best done after the leaves have fallen but well before early spring.

I have both of those.  Sango Kaku has red stems which distinguish it and, in my experience, a looser framework than Orange Dream so I think yours is the latter.  Doesn't matter.  Either way you'll have gorgeous spring and autumn foliage colour and a good wee tree in between.

Bob is right about pruning.  Use good secateurs and only take off any wee twigs and stems that don't survive winter and cut back to just above a healthy pair of leaf buds.
