Red Mesa Blanket Flowers

I keep seeing lovely red wildflowers along the country road leading to our Central TX cabin property.  I finally stopped the car yesterday and picked one to research it on-line.  It appears to be what is called Mesa Red Blanket Flowers: 
Aren't they lovely?  They get about 12-13" tall.  Most Blanket Flowers I see in Central TX have yellow on the petal tips.  Those are pretty of course, but I think these all Red Mesas would look lovely planted in the corner of the property where out Texas Flag flies.

Looks as though it is the same type of plant. There must be some gorgeously bright wild flowers in Texas.

Yes, I believe that is what the TX wildflower site called it, Gaillardea mesa red.  I think they are lovely.  I think I'll collect some seeds and try to propagate more.  I just love them!

Mostly Texas is known for its breathtaking displays of Bluebonnets (dwarf lupines), but there are many other wildflowers, both native as well as annually sewn by the Texas Highway Department (thanks to Lady Bird Johnson's efforts) that are just as spectacular in prime season for the particular cultivars.  Sadly, this particular one isn't being sewn, but I'm so glad it is native along the rural road to our getaway cabin.
