Touch wood l have never seen a rose that badly damaged by vine weevil, it's nearly always along the edges, more like your other plants. If it's not slugs and/or snails then vine weevil it might very well be. Sorry,I think l attached the wrong link before, l was thinking of the large rose sawfly which does defoliate roses , try this one https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=196
Many thanks for the feedback. Any advice on treating a decoy plant with a pesticide. I think the idea is to put out at dusk only and make sure no flowers. I have been using nematodes - bought multiple lots last autumn and this spring and clearly still have a huge vine weevil problem!! (Will also look for those sawflys on the rise- thanks )
The plants look weak, , that hydrangea in the pot needs to be in soil, they won’t grow in nothing,I would take it out, fill the pot with a good soil, cut the plant back and replant. It would be better in the ground though. You need to cut all those brown dead stalks off the Rose and next spring give it a good rose feed.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
