DISTORTED DAHLIAS

I love dahlias and grow a great many each year.  This year the majority of them have produced distorted growing tips resulting in distorted buds and then very damaged almost non-existent flowers.  Do you know what has caused this please?  Should the tubers be destroyed?? I'm sad, I have about 50 pots that are not going to give me my usual show.
