Your basic soil testing kit will only tell you if you have acid/neutral/alkaline soil not if it's poor in nutrients.
With all soils you can't go wrong adding manure as a mulch in autumn or digging in buy in bags or find a local stables,
Google will turn up helpful info on how to tell if your soil is sandy/clay or more loam,

You can pop your postcode into this site and it'll tell you what the soil is like generally in your area

As said above test kits only give an indication of pH, and they're not very reliable anyway
Lots of organic matter dug in will enrich your soil

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
