Japanese Knotweed

unfortunately we have spotted some knotweed in our garden about 4/5m from our house.  We have booked a specialist to come out, inspect and discuss treatment plan etc.  Obviously been googling and there are plenty of horror stories out there.  I am curious to hear from someone who has had it and what issues/problems/losses they have experienced if any.

thanks

Spray it with glyphosate at two week intervals.  Have the neighbours got it as well? It would be odd to just have a single stem coming up.
  • Its my parents that live next door and they have about 7/8 buds that are sprouting up.  It was spotted by chance by a visitor as none of us are gardeners.  I have read stories about properties being severely damaged, losses on the value of the home, inability to sell etc etc.  We are not looking to sell so we just want to avoid any potential damage.  All stories on the web are doom and gloom, kind of like when googling for illnesses...

If you are not planning on moving soon, it is curable. Just keep cutting it down and spray any regrowth with glyphosate. Any cuttings have to be burnt on site, you are not allowed to transport it anywhere else because of it spreading.  Wilko have small garden incinerators that you can use to burn it.
  • Ah ok brilliant thank you.  You have been a great help.
