I think it is A. spinosus. The flowers have spikes as well. It tends to spread by any portion of root left behind, and will also spread by the large seeds it has. Cut to the ground each Autumn, it will sprout up next Spring. Other than that it is fairly easy. The flower spikes will dry for winter arrangements if you want.
