Curly willow dropping leaves

Hi All,
For the last year or so our curly willow is dropping leaves, even new growth seems to be going brown and falling off. No idea how old it is as we only moved in a few years back. Its a good 20 ft tall.
Any ideas?

thanks

It's possibly just thirsty and stressed.  Last year was very hot and dry and in some areas this spring has been dry too so the water table will be low and willows need a lot of water.  Mine is actually growing in the water at the shallow end of an unlined pond and is very green despite no rain for weeks.

Try giving yours a good soak with a bucket of water (or two) every day for a week and see if that perks it up.   If it does, carry on watering every other day till you get some decent rain.

Trim off any brown stems.  Maybe take off a few green stems and root them in a bucket of water in case you need a replacement.

  • It could possibly be Anthracnose, a fungal disease known to affect willows.

Great thanks, it does sound like Anthracnose. I`ve ordered some multirose fungicide and a sprayer with extension in the hope i can reach higher up the tree.
