Burncoose’s extraordinary delivery charges.

Based on it’s good reputation for plants and the fact it delivers to Europe, I was going to order a few perennials I can’t get here. For 3 x 1.5-2L plants, the stated delivery charge was £120.00!! No that’s not a typo, one hundred and twenty pounds  :o

6 x 6L potted roses from David Austin UK, was £20. A delivery from Brittany that must have weighed double what 3 pots would, was €12.50.

Do you think they were planning on chartering a private plane to bring them over?

    EEK!!
I ordered from a Hosta nursery in Holland and it's a standard £20 delivery but if order total is over £100, it's free.

Blimey  - are they personally coming over and planting them for you too?  :D

I suppose they simply have to charge what it costs them, and some nurseries will have less of a cushion to play with when it comes to delivery charges. I was looking at an alpine specialist [which is up here] and their delivery is quite high, but it all comes down to their ongoing costs for everything, not just the end product of delivery.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • OH arranged his own delivery (through a company called something like parcel2go) to get a heavy item  from Germany (as the company said they wouldn't deliver because of Brexit). He reckons they would charge about £12 for 3 plants. Probably more hassle than it's worth though!

It's probably priced to deter overseas orders, I've heard that companies don't want the hassle.

Well I would expect the Director to fly out and personally plant them for that price! I have emailed them to see if a more cost-effective delivery arrangement is possible.

I suspect they have had their fingers burnt in the past and have to build in the cost of a refund for DOA plants, but still...

Try this lot, I have not used them but they seem reasonable!

    Cheers.
