Any idea what this is called??

hi everyone,
im in a rental property and this is the back garden, I have noticed it has pods on it any ideas what this is and how to cut it back etc?

Tree Paeony. The pods are seeds. When they are ripe they open with black seeds in a red membrane. No pruning needed really.

If you do decide to prune cut out some of the older stems to the basr. It looks awful and doesn't flower if you take all the ends off the stems
