Sunflower advice needed

hi, I have tried to grow from seed ‘Valentine’ variety. They are in pots on the patio as I have no sunny beds or borders for them. The stems are strong and I haven’t needed to stake them yet. The leaves are now browning in places and the roots are now popping out of the 10in (approx) pots. They’ve been potted on once already. I water them well and feed once weekly with tomato feed. I’ve since read that they should be fed with high nitrogen feed till they are to bud then switch to high potassium then. So I’m a bit stuck with should I pot them on again, will this stunt their growth and have I been incorrectly feeding - or indeed should I be feeding at all?! There are some continuous release granules in the compost mix already. Many thanks for any and all help. 🌻🌻🌻

They look really healthy plants to me. A couple or yellow or brown leaves do happen. It might be leaf scorch, if the leaf had been wet or it was a very hot day for a very new plant. Good luck!
  • Thank you that’s good to know. First time doing these so no idea what to expect! Many thanks 🌻

It's just my take. Others will have other thoughts.

There’s some advise here on how to grow that one, you will need a 6’ cane have you got pots big enough for these plants. They will want to grow big and may be a bit stunted in pots.

  • Ok that’s great Lyn & Hazel, I didn’t know that about the leaves and I’ll definitely repot and stake them. Brilliant- thanks so much 😊
