Neglected box advice

Dirty HarryDirty Harry Posts: 1,022
Got a couple of old box balls off Gumtree for a tidy tenner, they're needing a bit of TLC so I've potted them up into john innes 3.

The one in the photo below is clearly rather untidy, would it be best to leave it like that for now for the health of the plant until it gets a bit of time in the pot? Or can I just reshape it now?

They won't be getting displayed as such just now so happy to wait if it'll assist its health.

I would tidy it up now. You should clip box before Derby day so you're not far behind!

When is that and also why is that?

Derby Day is at the beginning of June. Don't know why - perhaps so that the box will still have most of the summer to recover? Old gardener's saying!
