Charlottes.. not so sure?!

I harvested my first bucket of Charlotte potatoes yesterday. I was pleased with them but did think they looked.. well not quite like Charlotte! I cooked them and they fell apart, skins fell off and much more floury than they should be (still tasty!).Second bucket today and again they seem a little too round and the flesh isn’t particularly yellow! I got the seed potatoes at the local garden centre in a mesh bag (I forget the brand), so labels etc weren’t mixed up on a pick your own etc. Any thoughts?

Exactly! Too white and just, well just not right! They taste nice but can’t boil them as they fall apart! Will try steaming/roasting. Just damned annoying when I’ve spent the last 3 months looking forward to lovely Charlotte potatoes!! 😫

That's odd @Flinster , but as happened last year there was mix ups from the seed suppliers to the growers to the GC in toms and courgettes that I know of. So could be the suppliers fault.

Hmm, no I don’t think they are Charlottes. I grow a lot of them. They should have more yellow flesh, most should be smooth oblongs with a few roundies and tiddlers in there, and be much waxier. The only thing that turns them a bit floury/falling apart is if you really overcook them but they should still be recognisable as Charlottes even then...

    I’m gutted! 😫
Ive got some in the oven now roasting and I’m sure they will taste fine, but they are not the lovely waxy, meltingly fab Charlotte...😢
