Gazinia

I couldn't find the recent thread about dividing Gazinia - someone had asked if this was possible and a reply to say yes, they had done this successfully.  I just want to add that I decided to try dividing my bulky Gazinia after reading this just a month or so ago, and now I have 10 small clumps - which are all in flower, taken from the original 3 massive clumps I had .  Thanks for the advice whoever you were.

I didn't know you could do that @Guernsey Donkey2  Which variety is it , or does it not matter.
  • It's this variety @purplerallim. I am not sure if this is Daybreak or another type - I grew quite a few varieties from seed 3 or 4 years ago.  I think they are lovely, and keep on flowering all through the summer if you dead head regularly.

I didn't realise you could split them as I have always just used them as summer bedding. Until last year when the over wintered ones survived in the greenhouse.
They look like daybreak to me @Guernsey Donkey2 as they are like the ones I raised from plugs plus I have this colour too

  • Thank you for the link @Lyn and I hope @B3 reads this too. I should have provided a picture of the divided clumps - will try to get one in the next day or two.  I must admit I thought dividing them at this time of year was a little risky, but with a few showers of rain and some watering from the can they have thrived.
  • At last, as promised, I took advice from you and have successfully acquired some divided clumps of Gazinia, all took to being divided and are thriving. I try to dead head them twice a week, the flowers are stunning and bright, although they don't last more than a few days.

I planted mine out from their trough of torture yesterday and they're looking better already. The foliage is standing up in gratitude!

    Same here @B3.
I have 2 dozen or so Gazania ready for planting, going to do it tomorrow hoping for the rain a bit later.

We are supposed to be having a drop on Friday, I’ll give them a good soak before hand.
