Rosa Mundi has lost her stripes

My Rosa Mundi has lost her stripes and now the flowers are uniformly pink. It was a cutting, about 10 years ago and has always had beautifully striped flowers until this year. Any suggestions please?

...it happens sometimes... your original rose, which is correctly Rosa gallica 'Versicolor' [Rosa Mundi]... came about as a sport from its parent rose Rosa gallica 'Officinalis' back in the 1650's... in a garden in Norfolk incidentally..   so your rose has sported back to the original.. so now you have Rosa gallica 'Officinalis'... the Apothecary's Rose... and not Rosa Mundi...

...if there are no striped blooms at all, then you will have to hope it sports back again, or buy a grafted plant from a rose nursery..

  • Thank you - that’s helpful. It was the last in a chain of cuttings going back over 100 years, so maybe it’s had enough! Still beautiful anyway.
