Pond location?

I am keen to have a wildlife pond in my garden. Are there locations I should avoid, like near trees for instance due to leaf litter?
I have a small area of woodland and would like to locate it there but obviously there are a lot of leaves falling in the winter and I imagine I would have to keep clearing it out, disturbing the wildlife.

    Welcome to the forum.
It's always tricky, under a tree can indeed pose leaf problems, too open and you run the risk of it heating up too much when it's sunny.
Try to have at least part of it about 2feet deep so it doesn't freeze in winter.

And another part shallow enough for birds to bathe in. It's such fun to watch them!
  • yes thank you. Going to have to have a good think about this. Don't want to get it wrong.
