Incredibly tall alliums

I have five alliums still to burst into flower... but... two of them are now eight feet high! The others are six feet. They look like wierd spears. They just look odd now.

Meant to say, is this common? Never seen any like this before.

If they are "summer drummer" that's what they are like.  Very tall stem, currently a spear like bud, opening up to a ball about 3 inch across. I hoped it would be huge, but sadly not.

That's the fellas. They're enormous. Can't actually remember planting them.
