Annual climbers

We have a gate between our garden and next door that we must retain due to a historic right of way, but it is never in use. Next door's cat likes to sunbath right next to the gate, on their side... And I have two lurchers who like to bark manically at it whilst it looks at them as if to say "What are you gonna do?"

I'd like to climb something on the gate that will cover it quickly, I saw the GW episode a few weeks ago talking about annual climbers and thought this maybe the answer, but would need something I could grow in a pot.

Can anyone suggest something suitable that'd grow in a container, grow quickly, look nice, but also screen the gate!?

Sweet peas, edible peas, runner beans, black-eyed Susan, morning glory.

I’ve just planted out my climbing nasturtiums up a pergola   it’s probably too late for this year to sow seed of most plants but they might work as they germinate and grow very quickly.

Morning glories. Grow well in pots and even if you plant now will put on spectacular growth. Don’t over feed and you will get lush foliage and flowers later in the season. I did some seeds just two weeks ago and they are already beginning to wind their way up a trellis.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.

Replace the gate or cover it with something more permanent like a pack of fencing planks if that is possible. That would make it non see through all year round, .
Though I guess your poor doggies would still smell it :D

Or use it,  unless it is only them possibly needing to come through your way?
What happens if they open it and your dogs get out.

Who has right of way? Why is it no longer used?
Sometimes they can be extinguished if truly not needed.

We will likely buy some boards to cover the gaps in the fence in a sort of “hit-and-miss” fashion eventually.
Its our right of way across next doors garden around the end of their house to the front, but we all have our own access from the back now so not really needed. We retained it however as it has proved useful when we had some long lengths of timber delivered for some building work.
