Hi I was wondering if someone could help me, I have a big stem growing from this plant to the left in the picture & wondered can I cut it off to replant in a pot to get another plant? Sorry about the wording I’m not really a Gardner...
What Dove said, except we are old..... you might be young and capable of doing it on your own. As per Doves advice on the splitting. Dig it out as big as you can , have a sheet of plastic or something to protect your lawn, then you can stand back and pull / chop or split it as you like. I rather like your colour combination with the fence. And hope you enjoy the flowers they are rather nice

The big stem at the side of your Phormium (New Zealand Flax) is a flower stem so would not produce a viable offshoot on its own.
However next spring you could dig up and divide the whole plant into two or three if you want more plants.
It would be a bit of a job ... I think Id like another person to help if I was going to do it.
