dahlia tubers are they dead?.

LongvillLongvill Posts: 33
Hi my dad gave me a large dahlia tuber which I merrily broke up and potted into several pots. Two sprouted and are now planted out and flowering. The other 4 have done nothing. But there does seem to be roots in the pots. Should I leave them where they are. Or throw them away. Any advice. Gratefully accepted.

Thanks.

When you broke up the big tuber did the individual pieces have “eyes”?  Like a little bud usually around the top?  As if a piece doesn't then it is unlikely to flower.   And the previous year’s tuber won’t flower either.

Oh I don’t know. I guess not. I knew I should have done some research before being so gun ho.
At least I have two plants.
Thank you for your help. I’ll be more careful next time. 😊😊

Well if they didn't have eyes then nothing you did changed things.  You just wouldn’t have wasted time & effort trying to grow them!

Oh I see. I thought if I hadn’t divided them into quite so many, they would have been better. Thanks for that. 😊
