New garden - what is this

Can anyone identify this plant which is in my new garden. I thought it was a hypericum but there are no yellow flowers

    I would say you are right, I think the flowers have set seed.

    I think it is too early for flowers.
    There are ashtrays of emulsion,
    for the fag ends of the aristocracy.

    Think that is Rose of Sharon, Hypericum Calycinum. The picture shows it's about to flower.

    They look like seed pods but there hasn't been a yellow flower just this greenish bracts and what looks like a seed pod.

    I agree with Borderline. Mine are just coming into flower now.
