Toad lily and cats ?

Hi all,

Can someone please tell me if a Toad Lily would be poisonous to cats ? From what I can find out they aren't , but the whole 'Lily' thing is worrying me.

Thank

I too have cats and grow lilies with no issue at all. I love them as a cut flower and I do cut off the pollen stamens of those in vases partly to be on safe side and partly because it stains!
If you are worried don’t grow them but most days are pretty canny as @Muddle-Up says

Toad lillies [ Tricyrtis formosana ]# are not from the lilly family, so should not be an issue.
How can you lie there and think of England

punkdoc ; I beg to differ here  . Tricyrtis are of the Lily family .

Natives of damp and shady areas of Japan and Taiwan , they form quite a distinctive group amongst the Liliaceae .

  • Am I right in thinking they aren't true lilies is in “Lilium” , so aren't poisonous for cats ?

Thank you for all the replies btw.

There is a long list of plants at the bottom of this page ; Tricyrtis or Toad-Lily is not on the list .
Maybe someone else could advise ?

I would say that as they are part of the Liliaceae family then suspect they too are toxic to cats. I have looked this up before, and although Toad Lilys are not named on poisonous lists, neither are they named on the safe lists. All other common plants from the Lily family are on the toxic lists.
My garden and I live in South Wales.

Good advice from AuntyRach above ; why take a risk for the sake of one plant ......best to play safe !
