I need honest opintion for my orchids

Hello this is nicholas osborn. I recently perchased my orchids from a store. Ive been trying my best to look after them and atm they seem to be ok. But im very paranoid that they are not doing so well in health and i would appreciate any options and pointers. I will upload each picture of my orchids. I have also treated the roots that i think sufferd from rot. I used hydrogen peroxide and repotted them all .Thank you in advance

I will leave advice to others.

It is perfectly normal and healthy for roots to come over the top of the pots.

They look OK. Keep out of direct sunlight, a north facing window is Ok, but others will be too hot. Spray regularly with a mister, do not allow to stand in water.

They look all fine to me. If the roots are dying or dead they will shrivel and go brown. If they are green or silver they are probably fine. What were you using hydrogen peroxide on?

    Why the hydrogen peroxide??
I water mine once a week, and feed when they are not flowering.don't know if it's correct but it's worked for me in the last 20 years .

hydrogen peroxide can be good at disinfecting rotting roots but you need to be careful how to use it. I can't remember the dosage but I think it's 0.3%.. I know I killed some plants using 3% so one needs to be careful, what a mature plant can handle will kill a seedling.

Anyway your plants look better than the one I picked up for a quid this week. But my mission is to nurture it back to life lol.

morning sun so east facing is best, all other sides especially north will kill your orchids from everything I have read.

I'm going for west facing with a netted curtain.

I think the biggest challenge is keeping to remember to water them every few days all year round. That's what killed my last one very quickly

I water my north-facing orchids mine once a month. They are doing fine.
  • Thank you all for your kind words of advice. I am a novice to thr hobbie and im still determind to learn. Ive been watching a youtube channle called" missorchidgirl" her videos are very educational and informative. The hydrogen peroxide ive been using is 3% wich is not high enough to cause damage to the orchids as is helps with pests and root rot. Any higher then hydrogen peroxide 3% may cause damage to the orchid. But thankyou all for your help and i feel alot better now. I will just lay off the watering for a week or so. And keep my eyes peeled for any rapid changes in the leaves and roots.  😀🌺

hey nick, I checked the recommended dose just to be sure and I was right about 0.3%. 3% is 10 times stronger. If my beer got 10 times stronger I would notice, trust me.

I am a big fan of hydrogen peroxide but like said you need to be careful with the dose, too much and you are doing more harm than good. Most people don't even use it just fine.

Dilute it down, at 0.3% it will still be doing its job but at 3% your plant will recover from the "hot" bath for a week.

You'd want to be sure that there was any real need to use hp.
