Chocolate cosmos

Am I right in thinking that this is chocolate cosmos? First time growing it from tubers, I did plant them there but I also replanted Liatris somewhere and I can't find it.

The developing flowers don't look very 'chocolate' though. If it's Liatris then the cosmos is another tuber failure from dry packets.

I've now convinced myself it's Liatris. I'm never putting tubers directly on the ground again.  :'(

I thought it were liatris before reading your post , C cosmos have more dahlia like foliage , I haven't grown one for a bit I don't think they smell as strong as they used to do.

    As Perki says, Liatris.
The Chocolate cosmos are worth buying as a plants.
Not to be rude but unless from a very good source the tubers can be a bit hit and miss.

There is a very good article on the Pacific bulb society site.
And unless you have well drained soil they can rot off, and are only half hardy.
Edit . Forgot link. And a good bit and pictures of tubers .

Thanks for answers. I think they were under the Liatris and they might have rotted of course. I still have the label in that spot. Can't work out why I didn't see the Liatris roots there when I anted the cosmos.

Sorry you seem to have lost them, I wonder if perhaps the Liatris moved or  "travelled " a little bit? Some plants do that. ( We had a Monarda that was a happy wanderer).

So maybe they were very close and this season the Liatris shoots have come up a bit further over.
Keep the label and wait and see, they might come up yet, it is still early in the season I think for the Cosmos to be showing. Maybe the Liatris has protected them.

Fingers crossed. And Do not poke around as you may break off any shoots, they are quite delicate sprouting.

@Rubytoo. Well there's always hope that they might pop op next to it I suppose. These days I'm a total airhead lol.

I’ve bought a tuber earlier this year and it has been in flower for several weeks already. Prompted by this thread I went to check again on the one I thought I’ve lost because I’ve left it in the ground. I think it’s back! I hope I’m not wrong. If anyone would like to confirm that would be great.

Thanks. I had this vision of a corner with rich colours. There was a canna which didn't survive the winter (even in the shed), this cosmos and geum that I think must have sprouted legs and wandered off. It's been an interesting gardening year so far.
