Quince

I have 10 year old Quince, sold as Champion (self fertile). It arrived at 3 years old as a bare root plant. In year 5 it produced 2 lovely fruits. But since then it flowers like mad but never sets fruit. I have tried moving pollen around the flowers with a soft brush, and also vibrating them with an electric toothbrush. I give it a seaweed and calcium feed each Spring. All to no avail. This year I left it to its own devices and after the flower petals dropped, the tree was covered in quarter-inch swelling fruits. Then they all fell off. Help!

It seems that Champion is only partially self fertile and will fruit much better with a suitable pollinating partner such as Meech's Prolific or Serbian Gold. Your experience would back that up as pollination is failing.

Cheers for that, I've placed an order with Marshalls seeds for a 2 year old Serbian Gold (£29.98 delivered). Let's hope it does the trick!  :-)
