I know Hogweed. It's the sides and back that are exercising me at the mo, you know, stop the compost falling off. Plenty of legs about when I've decided on that.
Now I just need to get OH to tidy up "his" work barn. No potting in "my" party barn!
Have to agree with BBS. I'd much rather have Adam's garden but mine will be wonderful, one day.

When Monty digs a hole to plant something you have to remember that he buys in lorry loads of compost, if we could afford that I’m sure our ground would be good too. mine is getting close to that, but the weather and altitude holds some plants back, not so this year though, the early warmth and lots of spring rain have worked marvels.
I read somewhere that the area is already dug over off camera by someone else so it's nice and loose and easy for tv
I'd love to know were he got that lovely watering can from, the one with the very fine rose which he uses to water all his seedlings etc. There you go: watercan envy 💚
You can buy fine roses to fit on almost any watering can. Job done. And as an aside, I did buy a few years ago a Hawes watering can at an eye watering price. No better or worse than the £2.99 ones out of the discount shops!!
Oooh I didn't know that - thanks! I'll have a look around.

I bet they do! Makes for better telly. Made me laugh a couple of episodes back when he <shock horror> struck a stone whilst digging out a hole for a new plant. The look on his face! It was priceless. Come and dig a hole in our garden Monty - whole bricks in there!
Even non-gardeners know that if you plonk a plant in perfectly tilled, weed - free soil , it will probably grow. (We rarely get to see if it does). Monty planting stuff in his perfect soil is, to me, not a lot different to those perfectly Photoshopped models in fashion magazines. Less damaging, but equally dishonest.
Wouldn't it be good to see him clearing and planting a newbuild garden. They could team up with that excavation programme that I can't remember the name of. They could discover underground 'treasures' that were even five years old!
But he developed that garden from scratch ... it was field and farmyard when he started ... the reason he’s got good garden soil is because of the work he and his wife Sarah have done over the years ... and they did do it themselves ... they’ve only had help there since he’s been doing the programme, which seems reasonable to me ... if my garden was going to be on tv every week I’d jolly well want some help ... and my garden’s tiny compared to his. The programme has tackled new build and other difficult gardens ... but MDs garden is what it is because his hard work has made it that way ... I just don’t see what the point would be in watching him digging up rocks 😕

Too true. I expect Monty to have good soil or the means to hand (garden compost and grit) to make it right for planting but I also expect GW to cover the kinds of situations and problems amateur/weekend/new/retired gardeners face in their smaller, usually suburban plots and with their time and budget constraints.

Very true Dove, my garden was just a field as well, sometimes I think it will never be anything else😢 but I asked our local council if I could buy a lorry load of compost, they said they didn’t sell it to the public anymore because were complaint of weeds in it, they only use it themselves on municipal gardens. Having seen Montys lorry load, I was very envious.

I would be very concerned about getting mares tail or bindweed from council compost. I don't trust them not to reduce the temperature a bit to save money. That's how the mad cow disease crisis started.
