Tree seeding all over

Hi, this is my first post and i must admit to being a novice gardener so i expect i may be bending your ears on a few occassions. I have huge tree near me which i suspect is the reason i have so many seedlings all over the place,I am constantly pulling up the culprits, that said some have got to large and managed to get well in,im thinking of purchasing a crowbar or failing that,is it better to cut it low and use a weedkiller...is this best when it is actively growing? any advice of this subject would be helpful..my backs done in with all pulling. Thankyou.

    Hello and welcome @mccannclan 😊

Can we see some photos of the seedlings please?

What kind of tree? I have an Ash and am constantly pulling seedlings. Last week I swept the paths and got half a compost bag full of mostly Ash seeds.

I think problems can occur if a few years pass before folk realise what’s happening ... they can find themselves suddenly living in a forest and wondering how it got there ... Burnham Wood to Dunsinane eh? 😉

I have hazel and walnut trees popping up all over the place - all courtesy of pesky squirrels. What with that and a huge beech tree (which seeds all over the drive) and massive self-seeding ashes both back and front - it's a wonder we can even get in the garden.

Personally, I just keep a beady eye and hoik the seedlings out as soon as I spot them. Let them grow to much more than 6" and you may have the makings of a battle on your hands.

    Hi welcome mccannclan.
It can seem a bit daunting when you are new to gardening. If you can identify the tree , put a photo or two, close up of the leaf form and tree in case seedlings are not identifiable.

Once you get to know when it will drop seed if you can clear the worst, so you get less germinating then it should not be so difficult to keep on top of in the future.
Also a picture of your garden so people can see what you are dealing with will help too.

And whether or not to use a weedkiller or some other method.

Or inherited as it seems with mccannclan

Sounds like a deep hot bath with a drop of muscle soak, and glass of wine or beverage of choice would be optional :D

When seedlings appear in your borders or veg beds, you can uproot them easily with a hoe.  If they are in a lawn, they won't survive mowing.
