What’s this?

Appeared out of nowhere growing out of an established shrub a few weeks ago, and today in the patch of geraniums alongside.  Been here 3 summers now and it’s the first time it’s come up. It’s nice!

    Thanks!

I wonder where they cam from.  Are they easy to contain?  I want to get rid of that shrub next summer in favour of flowering perennials.
  • Clare, they self seed pretty easily. Easy to limit to places where you want them just by pulling up by hand. Roots are not deep and they never get big enough to be a problem for pulling up.

    Brilliant, thank you.
  • If you want some more snapdragons in your garden elsewhere, you can just remove some seed pods from this one once they're mature, and just shake out the seeds in the area where you want them next year.

So the petals have gone from the earliest snapdragons, leaving what look like seed pods, how do I tell when they’re mature though?  Thanks for any help!
