I can plant poppy bare roots and they take fine, als oNative  Poppiues just seem to grow but I cannot grow Californian or Iceland ones.  What am I doing wrong?  They don't even germinate.  Can I germinate them on a kitche towel instead?

Californian and Iceland poppies are annuals, so you are a bit late for this year. So longas the seeds are fresh and you don't overwater them they should grow readily in the spring.

I think both do better direct sown,
