Potatoes

Good morning.
I've grown some Charlotte potatoes in bags and the tops are huge! They were planted on March 23 rd and were kept in a sheltered spot at the side of the house. In early May they were moved into the garden. The flowers are just beginning to break and show colour. When do you think that I should investigate the roots? I don't want to harvest them too soon but don't want to wait until the tubers are too large as I like to cook them whole. Thank you for your advice.

Wait until they finish flowering and then pull one plant up and have a look and judge for your self.

I would check now, if you wait until they are dying down they will be at full size and that doesn't sound as if it is what you wanted.

Thank you for your comments.  I don't want mature potatoes so I will plan to investigate next weekend. I've filled the bags with compost as the tops grew through it and hope that I haven't over watered! I'll keep you posted as to the results.
