Hebes

Please could someone advise me on how to help my hebe to flower. I have had it for 3 years, it's in a south facing fertile bed at the front of the border and is healthy enough looking, but has never flowered. All suggestions gratefully received.

Do you know which variety it is, Monica ?
Some of the small ones like Green Globe don't flower, but most do once they're mature enough.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Many thanks for getting back to me. I'm afraid that I don't know the variety, but it is quite heather like in structure and leaf.

Have you got a picture of it @monica.stark
  • I will wait until the rain stops and see if I can capture it!

Is it the whipcord one - James Stirling?. Golden coloured.
If so - the flowers are quite small and insignificant anyway, compared to the more usual varieties.
It may just be taking it's time - I think when I had it, it was  a fair size before it flowered.

  • Ah that is very helpful. As I say, when the rain finally stops I will take a picture and put it up here.

  • Thank you Fairygirl you have solved the mystery, it is a James Stirling whipcord! I suppose I will just have to embrace it as a bit of decorative foliage.
    Many thanks for your help.

Glad to help - as  soon as you said it had heather-like foliage, I thought it may be that one.
I liked it as it was a good foil for other plants, and also very hardy, but it is quite different from most of the other varieties.
It has small sprays of white flowers, but perhaps you just need to give it a bit of extra food to encourage flowering.  :)
