Dwarf greengage tree - help

hi all, I bought a dwarf greengage tree beginning of last year. I planted it out in a large container (im in rented accommodation so wanted to take it with me if I move) 
it had leafs & flowers last year. This year it grew buds but didn’t have leaves .
is it dead? Have I done something wrong? Should I leave it be & see what happens? Advice please from a learning gardener x

If it has no leaves I would say it is dead.

So many possible reasons.

Can you put a photo on here for us to see?

Maybe the pot was too small.
Maybe the compost/soil was unsuitable - too light, not enough nutrients...
Maybe it was too dry.
Maybe it was too wet.
Maybe the tree got frosted.
Maybe it was too warm and never came out of dormancy.
Maybe something in the pot ate the tree’s roots.
