Bugs on my fig tree.

B3B3 Posts: 24,435
I've noticed two things on my brown turkey fig leaves
On the top it looks as if someone has sprinkled salt on them and the leaves feel slightly sticky
On the underside, there are  soft, pale scale insects attached to the veins.
Do i need to do anything about the scale insects ?

I've done some more research and i think they're mealy bugs.
The site recommends getting them off with rubbing alcohol but that seems a bit harsh. Do you think dilute washing up liquid and cotton wool would be better?

I meant scale insects but as you say, the treatment seems to be the same. Ive got white spirit. Will that do?
    Thanks @philippa smith2

I sprayed the leaves with a jet of water both sides this morning. Got soaked!!
If that didn't do any good, I'll get some meths. Thanks for your help @philippa smith2😊

Found some meths in the back of the cupboard. Well it smelt like meths. OH refused to taste it.
I've found some use for my paintbrushes that have been languishing awaiting the end of my artist's block. Hosed it down afterwards and got another soaking.
Will inspect tomorrow. Hopefully live fig and absent bugs.
On a positive note, i quite like the smell of meths. Nice colour too.
