What flowers to plant after tulips?

I’ve got a prominent bed which has had an amazing display of tulips. I’ve deadheaded and fed and waiting for foliage to die down -probably another two weeks. I don’t intend to lift the tulips-just can’t be bothered!!!
What should I plant over the tulips? I’ve heard maybe nothing too thirsty as the bulbs won’t like too much water. I’d ideally like some bee friendly flowers and something that will look good by 7 July as we have a gathering then! If not too much to ask! Thanks!

I often plant annuals where tulips go. I like Savia farinacea. Have planted a variety called Saga Blue. Otherwise bushy single or semi double zinnias, Profusion are good, or Cosmos. Go to a garden centre and see what they have.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

I'm wondering too. I have a load of diascia in that same bed which lasts for years and is a good bolt of colour.
  • I agree with Busy-Lizzie - annuals would be my choice.  You could sprinkle some annual seeds in the bed, providing the packet instructions suggest sowing now, and then follow the packet instructions or as Busy suggested go along to the Garden Centre to buy them already in flower/to flower.
