Welcome to the forum, kd. Bottom picture looks to me like a Japanese anemone, a popular garden plant with attractive pink or white flowers. Some people regret planting it because it spreads itself around and is difficult to get rid of.
The first photo of the shrub, it looks like a really overgrown Spiraea Arguta. They may not flower if not pruned back after flowering each year around late spring time.

Does it get little pale lilac flowers that smell sweet too?
Have a look at Aloysia or Lippia , not sure what it is called these days officially.
