Dead acer ?

Has this happened to anyone else. The bark has gone white and the leaves have died. Been fine fof three years. Good drainage, good soil and in shady spot out of direct sunlight. What is it and can it be saved ?

I've struggled to grow acers but I've never seen one as bad as that, did it get like that overnight or was it a long process?

    Had it been recently repotted?

Sorry to be bearing sad tidings, but in the words of Monty Python, that Acer is no more.

@punkdoc ... I was wondering whether it might have been repotted too deep which could have killed it?

    Hard to tell @Dovefromabove.
Some of the stems look like it might have verticillium wilt.

  • It was repotted about a month after i first noticed the problem. I took it out of quite a deep planter that was going rusty. It has taken three months to get to this sad state. I have put it into a smaller pot with ericaceous compost but nothing seems to be helping
