Plant ID please

Hello, I was hoping someone may be able to help me ID this plant please.  It has loads of flower buds at the moment and has little white flowers when in bloom, that are beautifully scented especially in the evening. I was thinking some kind of Jasmine but haven’t been able to correctly ID it as yet.  It’s in a neglected part of the garden and bramble has now grown all
through it. My husband wants to cut it all back, I’m keen to save it or be able to propagate more of it, for other areas, so any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.  plant.

I think it's a Philadelphus, possibly P.'Virginal' a lovely double white flower with a wonderful fragrance. Don't let hubby cut it back until after it's finished flowering, and then only the shoots which have born the flowers.

Thank You Yorkshirerose really appreciate your help. I can’t remember exactly what the flowers looked like other than that they were white. Working on that section of the garden now so would like to save/rejuvenate it and make some more plants for another area.  X

I bought one of those once, or at least that's what I ordered.  When it eventually flowered, it turned out to be a Deutzia!  P. 'Virginal' is lovely.
